Golf Solitaire is another unique variation of the classic card game and uses a lot of terminology from the sport itself. The aim of the game is to move all cards from the tableau into the waste pile, and the way to do this is to move the cards with a rank higher or lower than the one currently sitting on the waste pile.

Golf Solitaire Game Rules

When a new game begins, 35 cards from a 52-card deck will be dealt out into 7 columns of 5 cards, and all cards will be faced up. The remaining cards will be placed below as the stock pile, and one card will be flipped over to begin the waste/foundation pile.
The cards on the top of each column can be moved into the waste pile, provided they are one more or one less in rank than the card currently in the waste pile, regardless of suit. For example, a black 7 of spades can be moved to a red 8 of hearts. Unlike most other Solitaire games, you cannot move cards from one column to another. Cards can only be moved to the waste pile.

To win a game of Golf Soltaire, you are required to move all the cards from the 7 columns into the waste pile. Otherwise, the score is calculated based on how many cards you have remaining on the tableau, with fewer cards generating lower score. Just like in golf, you want to score as low as possible, with a score of zero or lower being perfect.

The Stock Pile, which is at the bottom left side, is where you can draw new cards to be played. After drawing a new card, you can only play on the newly drawn card, and the cards below that are forfeit. Once all cards have been drawn from the pile, no redeal will be available and the game is over if no more moves can be made.

• Look out for possible combos that you can stack. For example, if you have a 6 and you see a 7, 8, and 9 available for subsequent play.


• Undo any moves that you think is a mistake. It is particularly punishing in this game to make a mistake since you can’t backtrack, so don’t hesitate to use the Undo button.


• Use the Hint feature. This is a last resort for most players, but if you are determined to get a win, there is no shame in getting a hint from the computer.
